All living organisms emit electrical signals which can be recorded with a process similar to human ECG or EEG. These tiny voltages are outside the human range of hearing, but can be rendered audible through the process of audification. Firstly bioelectrical signals are digitized into EDF (European Data Format) files which can be easily stored and exchanged. Then the signals contained in EDF recordings maybe extracted into wav files with custom made software. Bioelectrical files are the sound source of these compositions. A quiet listening environment or headphones recommended.
"Shinkei likes to play with the perception of sound, moving on the edge of audibility, exploring the empty spaces between sounds. Usually a new project is developed with each release to experiment with different, unusual sound sources: computer simulated brainwaves, recordings of biological signals, or the snow falling over a microphone... Shinkei compositions are best listened to on headphones, or in a quiet dark space."

Arranged by a 2.038 inch circle and the equation; radius squared x pi = area = 3.26 inches / 2 [area left & right] = 1.63 inches = 1.63 minutes = 97.8 seconds. [1 duration unit] x 12 [units] = 1173.6 seconds - .6 seconds [round down] = 1,173 seconds x 2 [area left & right] = 2,345 seconds = 39 minutes 6 seconds = sound area of a 2.038 inch circle.

John Hudak | Sunday
TRANS006
Net Release Date - Feb 2007
Codec: .mp3, Quicktime
Physical in 2008
Edition 50
It is our pleasure to bring to you two of John Hudak's receint works. One with two compositons based on the theme of "Sunday" and one collaboration with New York based video artist Shimpei Takeda.
Artist Statement
"Growing up, Sunday was always a day associated with the particular feeling of the end of something. During meals the family was together mostly: silent meetings leaning towards meditation. The TV was constantly on in the recreation room, creating a background noise that occasionally approached meaning. Homework was done on the comfy sofa in the living room, where sleep would fall around page two. When evening came, Tinkerbell would fly around the castle, ending her flight with a touch of her magic wand." j.h.
Bios
John Hudak has been interested in sound and music from the age of four when he began to play a variety of instruments. At the University of Delaware (BA, English 1981) and Naropa Institute for the Arts (1979), he studied video, photography, creative writing and dance. He then began to create taped soundtracks for his solo performance-art/dance pieces that later developed into sound-only pieces.
In recent years, he has concentrated solely on sound, particularly natural sounds. Hudak’s current work focuses on the rhythms and melodies that exist in our daily aural environments. These sounds usually remain hidden, as we tend to overlook their musical qualities, or their musical qualities are obscured through mixture with other sounds. In simplified terms, what he is doing could be considered "re-framing what is already there so that it can be admired."
Shimpei Takeda Shimpei Takeda (b.1982, Japan) is an artist who works in the discipline of: photography, video and performance.
His work primarily deals with the abstraction at work in nature, as in: random organic motion, with lights, glass, water, random materials capturing microscopic abstractions to compose landscapes. On his performance, he often collaborates with sound artists and electro-acoustic composers. He currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.

PRESS RELEASE
Bremsstrahlung Recordings is pleased to announce the thematic collaboration between toy.bizarre and Dale Lloyd. Two pioneers in the world of field recordings. Their commitment to the art goes past their own work both running recording labels that specialize in phonography.
With over 30 years of experience with field recordings between them these artists created immaculately produced sound-scapes centered on the theme of childhood. Toy.bizarre composed with sounds recorded from a well behind his childhood home in Pommier, France and Dale Lloyd created his pieces with sounds and moods extracted from a trip made to pay last respects to his grandmother in Alabama, USA. Both artists apply their unique signature to the themed material offering alternatively dense and delicate audio for the adventurous listener. More than just the abstract manipulation of sounds these pieces carry the weight of remembrance.

"Chance favors the prepared mind." -
Louis
Pasteur
This work of stunning beauty presents itself more like a masterwork
of compositional restraint and focused exploration of timbre than
the enhanced field recording it is. Thompson's prepared mind allowed
him to capture one of the most moving pieces of sound you are likely
to experience this year. It must be heard to be believed…
Artist Statement
This piece uses sounds drawn from a field recording
made only a few meters from my home off the north sea in the small
Scottish fishing village of Footdee.
Wind blowing through the unfinished
structure of the new harbor tower created an aeolian
harp that resonated across the village. Isolating these
sounds from the gusts of wind and sea, I tried to create a piece
that flowed as pure and natural as the original recording. hints
of wind and sea are still evident, but now with a slightly removed,
alien timbre. Extreme noise reduction and equalization were used
on the sounds, but otherwise no additional processing was employed.
Bio
Bill Thompson is a sound artist living in the
north
east of Scotland. Formerly of Texas
where he was active in the Austin
experimental music scene, he now spends his time recording
buildings, boats and clay pots while hoping this will somehow count
towards his pending PhD.
He has written for acoustic, electro-acoustic, live-electronic,
tape, and digital media, including several installations. as a performer,
he uses an assortment of equipment ranging from prepared guitar,
digital cd mixers, laptop, radio, and digital/analogue synthesizers,
as well as found objects and diy circuit bent devices. Regardless
of media, an attention to sound and presence is always foremost
in his approach. More info can be found at www.billthompson.org

Compiling a lust for beauty, obsession with detail, and a unique
philosophy concerning the “multidimensional architecture of
sonic space,” Cory Allen is a composer who applies his endless
study of cognitive science/philosophy with refined and abstract
composition methods in order to delicately “tune in”
the vibrations of his music to the perceiver’s nervous system.
Using a Moog Voyager and other electronic devices, Allen creates
throbbing, rolling, fountains of electronic elegance, causing the
listener to relinquish their bodies to a state of bemused abstraction.

Rick Reed | Hidden Voices [For Herman Nitsch]

Edition 50
An active sound-artist for the past 20 years Reed
has released several LP’s on labels such as Ecstatic
Peace, Beta
Lactam Ring, Pale Disc Japan, and Elevator
Bath. His latest projects have been providing the soundtrack
for New York film maker
Ken Jacobs’s latest work
“Mountaineer Spinning” and creating a sound installation
for Herman Nitsch’s latest gallery exhibit “The
Orgies Mysteries Theater” in Houston Texas.
For this release Reed has composed with the sound sources used
for the Nitsch installation to create a dynamic and hypnotizing
39-minute sound work. With masterful control of his Moog, World
War II era sine-wave generators, short-wave radio, and assorted
hardware [no computers here] Reed pulls the listener ever deeper
into their Id. When we first listened to this work it functioned
as a kind of audio Rorschach test conjuring up images of rutting
wild sheep charging forth with ecstatic intensity which then, bruised
and exhausted, wedge their way back into their mothers' wombs in
an attempt to melt back into what was there before they were. Listen
with caution.

Wide-ranging interpretations of the Golden Mean.
The Golden
Mean is perhaps the best known ratio in the world. If
one produces a series by adding two consecutive terms to arrive
at the next term (0,1,2,3,5,8,13...etc.) then as the numbers increase
the factor each term is larger than the previous term approaches
it's limit; 1.6180339887... It is this limit that is often called
the "Divine Proportion,” and it and its reciprocal have
been widely drawn upon for inspiration and explanation in the natural
sciences, architecture, engineering, art and music. Numerous classical
and modern composers have works interpreting this natural phenomenon.
Proven itself to provide direction to so many we decided to ask
some current sound-artists to consider producing a work inspired
by this math. Far from sounding similar and formulaic these works
are wide-ranging taking the listener through 11 distinct sound-worlds.

Website
We have just overhauled our website and changed our URL address.
We are no longer at www.lowercasesound.com but now at www.bremsstrahlung-recordings.org.
The site’s content has been expanded and we have added an
online-first release section.”
About
bremsstrahlung recordings is a not-for-profit-seeking organization
which focuses on publishing egoless sound. Any profit made goes
to help fund the nature sound preservation campaign “one square
inch of silence,” headed by Gordon
Hempton. This is a quest to find one square inch within a national
park in which “natural quiet” (absence of man-made sounds)
exists. This campaign has already led to greater awareness of sound
pollution in parks and caused airlines to redirect flight paths
in order to better preserve “natural quiet."
As the sole sponsor of this quest we will do what we can to ensure that
work of raising awareness on noise pollution in national parks can continue.
Currently Gordon is currently looking to conduct an acoustic survey to locate
feasible one-inch sites in the ten national parks on the UNESCO World Heritage
List.
TRANS>PARENT RADIATION:
In the past four years we have watched the proliferation of quality
online audio releases from such places as Stasisfield,
CON-V,
Thinner/Autoplate
and TERM.
Our appreciation of these happenings has led to us desiring to share
audio in a similar way.
Each TRANS>PARENT RADIATION release will be made available for
a limited time as high quality (192kbs) downloadable MP3 audio and
then later issued as professionally duplicated, silk-screened CDRs
with professionally printed handmade packaging. The edition runs
will be small (50 – 100), hand numbered, and NOT reissued.
TRANS>PARENT RADITAION was started out of the idea to bypass
the commercial aspect of a recording label and just share audio
we find compelling. Therefore we are interested in who we are sharing
with. It would be a great service to us if you would take the time
to sign up for our mailing list by clicking the link below.
